I live in a 10 year old townhome and I need to paint the exterior, specifically the wood around the windows. See attached photo--I need to paint the wood around the 3 windows on the left hand side. I've never done an exterior painting. What type of paint would I use? Do I need to prime? Do I need to scrape all of the old paint off (please say no!). How does weather factor into it? I'm looking to do this on Saturday and the forecast is for highs in the mid 60's and low's in the upper 40's, with possible rain (obviously if it's raining I won't paint!). Next day will be a bit cooler.
We just finished having this done ourselves - best to get it done now for sure. Our painter sanded (and in a couple places filled with a bonding compound), cleaned and then painted with Benjamin Moore Aura exterior house paint...you can paint while temps are in the low 40's with Aura. Just sand until you have a smooth surface before you paint. We have old wooden windows and hope to replace them in a couple years but for now they are ready for the rain and snow. Good luck on your project.
I've also heard really good things about Sherman Williams Resilience exterior latex - it was a lifetime warranty when two coats are applied - supposted to be fabulously long wearing.
