Hello all. I have a two car garage with one single aluminum garage door. I'm looking at Chamberlain belt driven openers and want to get the 1/2hp opener. Is there any reason to go with the 3/4hp model? The door is balanced as far as weight goes so I would expect 1/2hp to be plenty of umph.

I may tell you on the box it comes in...I think they go by the weight of the door.

1/2 HP is plenty. I have installed 1/2HP openers on HUGE commercial overhead doors (22' wide 28' tall). It all is in how well balanced the door is. 1/2Hp is fine for every single residential garage door I have ever seen. (installed thousands of doors and openers for a living over the course of many years)
