I've seen quite a few wasps going up under my hardi-plank siding. There are two locations where they are locating. Will they do damage there? Can they get into the house from there? What is the best product to use to get rid of them or discourage them?
My parents had bees go under their wood siding, and the bees did find a way into the actual walls of the house...you could really hear them buzzing away. Dad drilled a hole in my bedroom wall, and all these bees tried to get through it. He drilled 5 holes in different places along the wall with the same result. They were everywhere. He ended up calling an exterminator.
They may just be building exterior nests, but watch it closely.
Since hardi plank is usually tight to the one below it, where are the gaps?
If you know where the gaps are, spray some wasp spray in there to kill them, then seal the gaps up with caulking or some other material.
Thanks. I think if I watch their behavior I'll be able to see pretty clearly where their entrance is and take care of it. Wasps seem to like my house this year!
Wasp spray works pretty well. It shoots a stream about 10 feet into a nest so you are not next to it. You can get it at any hardware store, just spray at dusk.
Had a neighbor buy a super soaker water gun for wasps in his wall. Put a little gas in it and sprayed at the bottom of the board they are using. If the gqas doesn't hit them, the fumes will, and he says gas works extremely better than thos wasp sprays you can buy. LIke oildog said, he sprayed late in the afternoon with the gas and went out about an hour later with the water hose to get rid of the gas that didn't evaporate. I haven't done this but saw him doing it on his shed and it killed them.
