I have new kitchen cabinets. Do you line your cabinets with contact paper?
I wasn't sure if this was passe. If not, how do you protect your wood shelves from moisture (if glasses are not completely dry etc)?

In the past I have used that rubberized liner you buy in the contact shelf liner area of the store, comes in white and beige I think and you cut to fit...things don't slip and you don't have that sticky contact paper to deal with..

If by new line you mean cabinets with melamine (pretty much like formica) shelves then there really is no need. Those are easily cleaned with soapy water, bleach, whatever. And they won't harbor any germs like wood or something with a grain or minimal finish.

I was told not to do that because the adhesive attracts bugs. I wouldn't worry about the little bit of moisture from glasses ruining your shelves.

I always line kitchen cabinets - new ones and old ones - I find it's much easier to keep them clean. It's not all so important for cabinets with my dishes, but with foods there are always cans that leave rings, cooking oils that drip, boxes that leave behind color. Occasionally I'll wipe them down, but when the shelves get disgusting I just rip off the liner and reline them (I'm a lazy cuss and don't feel like scrubbing :-)

I don't use contact paper though - the adhesive makes it difficult to place them and remove them (and I didn't know about the bug attraction). I use either the rubber mesh or the vinyl self-clinging shelf liner (Rubbermaid brand).

Thanks everyone.

I will look into the vinyl self clinging.

I agree that sometimes, even using a "dishtowel" to ensure everythign is bone dry doesn't always work especially when you have kids. Also the cans leaving rings etc is another reason. I don't want to ruin my cabinet shelves.

There is a liner that is out there that I love. With all the moves we have made, its gone with me. Its a thin vinyl, with a small diamond on it. You can pull it out and wipe it down. The last place I was able to find it at was Target.
