There's plenty of water down there.
Weird!!! Where is your pump???

Time to get the pipe mfgr. involved. I can't help but consider that there is something unusual with the pipe, maybe that it has been mislabeled?

No PVC will work.

A pump can get hot due to cycling on/off without sufficient time off for cooling or due to the water level being drawn down far enough to where the pump is having difficulty moving water from that depth.

If there was no pressure tank and they added a small one, that will cause the pump to cycle on/off. Without one and enough water is used so the pump can't turn off, as for irrigation, the water level was probably pulled down to far. Although I hate the stuff, you need galvanized pipe.

If you want constant pressure you'll do much better with this http://www.cyclestopvalves.com

They are much less expensive and last while variable frequency pumps and their controllers don't last long.

How do you set your zones with this system?? I installed a system this fall, they wanted 60GPM for their irrigation and filling their hot tub. 20GPM in sinks. They call and asked me to change the small bath room because it was to "splashy" in the small sink. That zone now pumps 10GPM. I have put these in many homes that had city water. They LOVE it.

We have a pressure tank at the pump and one at the house plus a low-pressure shut-off valve.

No it's not "apples to oranges". You size the pump right.
