My house is about 40 years old, and has a large picture window with a UV coating on the inside. This coating has aged or become cloudy, so everything looks cloudy when you look outside through the window. I was able to remove a tiny piece of the UV coating in one corner, and it looks like a thin metallic film. Does anyone know how I can remove this coating from the entire window?

Get behind it with a razor blade and some soapy water or Windex- at 40 years old it probably won't come off easily, but it should come off eventually. Make sure you do it when the sun isn't beating on the window.

Agree, but be careful, the first one I did I was in a hurry and actually scratched the glass.

I have had no luck cleaning up between panes gone bad and would not waste my time. If the window frame is in decent shape it makes sense to replace the glass. Had a large window pane (4'x5') replaced recently with a new double low-e piece for less than $400. If the coating is on the outside of the glass a razor blade scraper may work.
