My plans for the next house are an open living area. Never have lived in one, and I think I would like it a lot. Two bedrooms, one will be a dedicated sewing room, but I will have a wall bed installed, just in case of visitors.

I don’t understand having a useless area. Years ago, when we were looking at homes, our agent took us to a condo. It wasn’t bad, but the builder made a very awkward design choice. They put in a staircase with closed risers, added a little storage closet underneath. But they didn’t position it at the wall, they installed it about a foot and a half in, then put a window in the odd deep area that was left. What do you do with this long deep thin area? Oh, storage? Yeah, the window was on the front walkway so, no... honestly, it’s been 32 years and I still occasionally muddle over that stupid area...
