I have had a 50 inch Pioneer Elite plasma on the wall using a Chief bracket for about four years with no problems. However, my walls are 2x6 studs. If yours is an older home with only 2x4 you could get around the problem by cross bracing with 2x4's or 1 inch plywood screwed to the studs. The bracket doesn't take up as big a footprint as the screen. Therefore, the bracing would be hidden when the TV is pushed flush to the wall. I might add that my TV weight was about 120 pounds.
I ran into a similar problem recently when I upgraded to a 65 inch Panasonic
which weighed over 180 pounds. I had to buy a new bracket, but fitted it to the same 2x6 studs without additional bracing. Since the hole pattern and spacing on the original bracket wouldn't fit the new Panasonic I had to buy a larger bracket. The brand I used was Peerless. I sugest you Google Peerless TV brackets and call them directly for load characteristics.
My old TV with the old bracket has been mounted in another home on an interior wall with 2x4 studs for about a month. So far it's still on the wall. Good luck.
