CHANDLER, Ariz. - Two hours after his flight landed in Phoenix, Calgary resident Doug Farley already was cruising the city's vast stuccoed suburbs in search of the one attraction Canadians can't seem to get enough of these days, cheap homes.

There are thousands of them here: almost new, unoccupied and dropping in value. The mortgage meltdown, combined with a surging Canadian currency, has Farley - and many of his countrymen - dreaming of winter golf on grass that's always green.

Well I have bad news for them. They can buy a home here but just because they buy a home does not mean they can live in it. You know we do have this thing called Immigration here and you cannot just buy a home and move here on a whim. You kind of have to ask us first. That is one thing that bugs me about Canadians- they have a sense of entitlement to the USA that they think it is like moving to another province or something. Like "we can just go and come as we please". I would not care if they treated us in the same way when we go up there but they don't. If you want anything in Canada and you are not a Canadian, you have to jump through hoops to get it. Even their radio stations limit play of American artist songs because they are not Canadian! Could you imagine a US radio station saying something like "you know there are too many Canadian sings so we are going to limit playing Shania Twain and Nickelback" ?? People would laugh!

Canadians have been buying US property for decades, and not just in the warmer parts of our country.
However, I don't think we've ever had quite the oversupply that there is right now.
