Our dishwasher broke and I'm now getting ready to buy a new one. Right now we have white appliances. I'm considering buying a stainless steel dishwasher, and then switching to SS with the other appliances too once they need replacing. I'm not crazy about the idea of having mismatched appliances though. (It could be years before the other appliances need to be replaced.) Should I stick with white, or is SS the way to go? Thanks!

Default Ahead or behind?

1. Stainless steel shows every spec of dust and fingerprints.

With an average lifespan of almost nothing for D/W- just stick with white.

Then, when you're ready to bite the bullet for the stainless buy all at one time.

Default I had a white Bosch dishwasher for 11 years...

...the interior was SS. I had a SS range, 36"' 6-burner, commerical quality BlueStar. Never had anyone complain about anything. The Bosch had hidden control (on top edge of door) and pull handle was SS so that kind of pulled things together.

New house / remodel I have SS range and the D/W has panel to blend into cabinetry.

You don't have to do either. Let me explain. But first.........Stainless is losing it's appeal to some degree. Sales for stainless appliances are dying. That is a fact, my opinion is it will never die out.

That said:

If you're not so sure then you can buy a white DW that is "insert ready" to accept matching door panels to match your kitchen. Assuming your kitchen is something of the modern variety. This means you put door panels the same style and color into the DW face. You can do this with your fridge too.

So you can buy the DW now and put the door face on, later the fridge do the same thing.

One thing to remember. If you wish to put door panels on the DW you must buy an optional kit that cost about $28 which are basically heavy duty springs that will keep the DW door in a neutral hold despite the added weight.

Just an added thought as an option for ya. In an older kitchen I would never put stainless appliances in and that opinion comes directly from yours truly who designs kitchens for a living.

My appliances have been mismatched for years, some white, some black, some stainless (I do prefer black, though) ...

It bothers me not one bit.

Buy what you like and don't worry about it.

IMO all white appliances look extremely outdated. I really like the white ice ones with just a touch of SS though.

White ice is cool. I have to agree about Stainless Steel, fingerprints all over it. We stick with white and do NOT feel it is dated, otherwise they wouldn't keep making them. BTW, we had an avocado clothes dryer for about 25 years. LOL
