We are debating whether or not to install a ridge vent. Our roof is probably 12 years old and I don't know if the shingles being older would be an issue. We are having an issue with cooling our upstairs. We had an HVAC guy come out today to address the issue with the duct work and unit. He suggested to put a mini split unit upstairs which is fine. I want to know if we don't have proper ventilation, will this unit have to run longer to cool the upstairs? I did read, if the insulation is done properly, it should be enough to keep the heat out.
I'm just not sure what to do.
We have a gable roof and the contractor said the gable vents are fake. We do have soffit vent around the house but I have no clue if we have enough. The contractor also noticed the insulation in the attic is covering the soffit.
