I just bought a new carbon monoxide alarm from Home Depot and as soon as I put the battery in it, it went off, and then when I plugged it in it did the series of beeps two times, as if I had some carbon monoxide present. It's now not beeping and I have an old one (very old) currently plugged in, and it is not registering CO.
Somehow I think it beeped because I was setting it up - the instructions are lousy, and it's made in (guess where?) China.
I now have it plugged in and it's quiet. I don't want to phone 911 for nothing but I don't want to have CO present and not do something about it.
If it is not working like you think it should, the instructions don't explain [to your satisfaction] what is happening, and they don't have a phone number to call for technical assistance... Then return it and tell HD why you are not happy with that product!
Get another brand.
(If we keep returning this junk, maybe they will get a clue as to what customer support is? [China])
Mine was buzzing a lot at first but then silenced and now reads zero.
