I'm about to purchase a house for myself. 2000 sqft with some major foundation cracks. The house is 16 years old and one story. One major crack goes from one side of the house to the other. I want to build tile over it but most likely it will crack. Is there any way to cover this up without the tile cracking? Would I need to put a fiberglass matting on it or is there something better? Would adding foundation keys help also?
Cover a crack?? It looks like a major foundation problem. You need to take care of it first.
What the inspector said? ( Assuming that you had the home inspected before purchase)
Would you post a picture of the crack?

Whoa! Back up that I'm about to purchase train until you get yourself an engineer.
Ask them these questions and the larger one of whether to buy this property at all.
Depends on what the OP considers major cracks. You won't find a home without cracks under the floor covering. The cracks could be nothing, or maybe they could be a real problem, have someone who knows take a look....
