I'm doing a gut renov job on my kitchen/bath.

Right now I have a small bump out of a powder/laundry room (facing the backyard) that wasn't part of the original floorplan for the house. The bump out actually closed up the doorway to the backyard. I'll like to remove that bump out completely so i can create an indoor/outdoor area/deck in a year or two.

There are 2 plans... one that includes the bump out and one that doesn't include it. See here.

Am I crazy to want to remove that bump out area? My contractor thinks I am and also thinks I should just create an addition to the right of the bump out to extend the kitchen. It'll cost 10k more to create that 2' x 3' addition.

What's your thought?
- plan w/o bump out
- plan w/ bump out
- plan w/ bump out and 2 x 3 extension

TIA!

I would keep the bump out, but not do the 2x3 extension. I don't think the additional 6 square feet will get you a whole lot.

The only benefit for the 2x3 extension is that you could possibly have room for an island in the center of the kitchen. The 1/2 bath layout seems kind of odd.
