Hi, I just purchased a forclosure home that is built on a concrete slab. The last owner did bathroom renovations and bathroom has leaks in the drain piping from shower. Secondly, they have a tub too and rerun the drain piping and the piping does not slope down properly for good drainage.

A plumbing person came over to see what needed to be done and has determiner he must jackhammer the concrete to properly run the drain piping for pitch etc. My question is, how has someone managed to have a working bathroom for the last 35 years or so and now the floor has to be broken to fix the problem.

I want to get rid of the shower and probably to source of the water leak and rerun the tub drain piping. Can someone offer a suggestion or two. Thank you. Michael

First of all, you have no idea if the bathroom functioned properly for 35 years - you can only assume.
Second, you said a previous owner did renovations.
Third and final - it really doesn't matter how it got broken or wrong, you just need to fix it. You really need to cut out the concrete to fix the plumbing. While its dusty and noisy, it really doesn't take all that long to do it.

OP: confirm that any OTHER work that be appropriate for 35+ year old mechanical's...
gets dealt with NOW rather than making all that dust and mess a second time.

Ask your neighbors for examples of what they have had to do.
