We're buying a home at the end of this month and we'll be putting a plasma tv directly across from windows that get a lot of sunlight. For those that might not be aware, plasmas are prone to glare; therefore, we'll need to block out some sunlight.
I don't know anything about them, but blackout curtains seem like a viable option. For those that know, are most blackout curtains the same? How much are they for standard-sized windows? How well would they work in this situation.
Blackout curtains should work...or black-out honeycomb blinds are nice. And, they will help keep the heat in your home. Check out country curtains...I THINK they have black out blinds...but not sure. Lowes or any place that sells blinds will have blackout honeycombs. We have a DLP and it can't be in the light either and we love the honeycombs.
I use the Wendy Thermals from Penney's also. I have them in my bedroom and living/dining room. They help keep heat out too. Supposed to help cut your energy bill but who knows. Sometimes they go on sale @ JCPenney. They can get pricey.
You can purchase black out panels that will hang under your normal curtain, that way you can pick whatever shade of curtain you want and then add the black outs, if you hang a seperate rod for them, they can operate seperatly therefore blacking out the room only when you want it.
I can't remember where I saw them but I will give you a list of websites I was looking at. Just use the search term "blackout".
I saw the panels that are sold seperate on one of these. I was going to purchase them and sew them as a lining onto the curtains I already have for my bedroom.
In my house in Texas I had the pleated shades that had the metallic lining that blocked out light AND reflected back the heat from the intense sunlight. I had them for every window and I got them stock from JC Penney's.
For my personal uses, I think I prefer the curtain idea. I like to have my bedroom completely dark so I would like to line my curtains with that fabric, the curtains are hung on the outside of the window so it would block out more light then the shades that are normally (but don't have to be) mounted on the inside of the window.
