Has anyone ever remodeled their kitchen using Ikea cabinets and/or countertops? If so, was working with Ikea an easy process and did you do the measuring yourself or have someone do it for you.

Their cabinets seems to be good quality and I'm wondering if I should go with them.

I'm mainly concerned with getting the measurements right and "designing" the layout...

Thanks!

I redid my kitchen entirely with Ikea products. I measured the kitchen myself, took all the measurements to the store, and one of the staff helped me design the layout on their computer. They usually want you to do it yourself, but I insisted they help me The measuring was spot on and everything fit in beautifully.

I would not suggest getting an Ikea kitchen if you have a nice, big house. Me, I have a small condo and just needed something simple and cheap, and I got what I paid for. The products are not perfect, but it works for me. I love the look of my kitchen (I got white cabinets).

The hardest part of the install was putting all the cabinets together right out of the box. I had a cabinet party one day and I worked for a solid 12 hours and wasn't even done...and my kitchen is NOT that big! Hopefully you have a dumpster. You'll be throwing away A TON of boxes.

P.S. Don't get butcher block countertops. I H-A-T-E mine. Good quality, YES, but I don't like the maintenance at all.

Run a search ... others have done it here. IMHO ...

Do it because ...
- you want to save money and not resort to imported cabinets made with formaldehyde laden plywood.
- you prefer frameless cabinets and the extra space it offers.
- you like how everything is modular and changing the face is literally a snap.

Don't do it ...
- if you hate assembling your own furniture. It'd be the same, except repeat it over a dozen or two times.
- if you prefer framed cabinets.
- if you want a cabinet interior that's a color other than white or birch.
- if you don't have the patience. Drawers boxes are separate from hinges which are separate from doors and drawer fronts and shelves. 15 complete cabinets means 100's of different parts. The key to its flexibility in design is also the key to the maddening quantity of items.

I have IKEA kitchen. All I needed was my kitchen plan. People in IKEA used a special program and you could see a different settings and ideas you could implemented in your kitchen. ( you can do it at your home computer too) : IKEA | IKEA kitchen planning tool (http://www.ikea.com/ms/en_US/rooms_ideas/kitchen/download1.html - broken link))
After you decided which setting you like, how many cabinets etc. they will order EVERYTHING you needed, to the last little detail.
Yes, everything is packed separately ( that's the beauty of mix and match), but every item is labeled clearly and correspond with the paperwork you will receive.
Just get your stuff grouped together and you will have no problem at all.
No tools needed ( except little keys to fasten the screws - you will get them with the screws) and the assembly is really easy. Every part comes with an pictorial instruction.
The screws, hinges, shelfs, inserts, drawer dampers, lights, backspash, moldings, knobs etc ... everything will be included. You don't have to be worry that something is missing in your project and you have to go back to the store.
You can also order countertops, sink and faucet, appliances and exhaust vent there.
The cabinets are MADE IN USA ( for IKEA), Nexus Birch doors were made in Italy and I had several other parts that I noticed were made in Germany. Other components are made in various European countries. I love their concealed hinges and silent drawer slides made by Blum.

I have this kitchen ( with the butcher block counter tops ) and it looks really very, very good!

Personally, I like IKEA for some things, but not my kitchen cabinets.

The Martha Stewart stuff at Home Depot is just as affordable.
