Sabres are only from Syracuse to Buffalo. Thats it.
Upstate cities like Syracuse, Utica, and Albany will NEVER get a team. Especially Utica and Albany already being Rangers markets, and to a lesser degree Devils, Islanders and Bruins.
Yeah basically anything north of NYC is considered Upstate NY, but technically the Sabres only represent WNY. Thats y i say if NY is to have 3 hockey teams either the Islanders or the Rangers have to move.
Florida -------> Seattle
Phoenix --------> Winnipeg
NY Islanders ------> Quebec City
Atlanta -------> Minneapolis
Seattle is definitely the #1 spot to relocate to in my opinion. The fan base is there and the metro area is over 1 mil larger than Vancouver which easily holds it own. Also, having a team in Seattle would let people from Portland drive up to Seattle to watch a game. Plus, the Vancouver-Seattle rivalry would be intense!

Add Nashville and Tampa to that relocation list as well.
Kansas City is already a failed NHL market and Toronto will never permit a team to relocate that close to their market base.
You've obviously never heard about the speculation over the past 6 months about Phoenix moving to Hamilton then.. And there happens to be a website dedicated to the move with over 150,000 supporters..

Well it's not even speculation anymore at this point, Balsillie is looking to make a move next month in court.
..or maybe i'm just out of my mind.
And the proposition for KC to replace Tampa is legit, heck.. any location out of Florida would be for that matter.
Yes....I've heard of the "speculation"....and thats just what it is........speculation. Your talking as if its fact and its not no matter how many "supporters" there are. Balsillie has already been given a resounding NO from the NHL and Bettman and those are the two "supporters" you need. If you allow one team to move then thats going to set the precedence to open the doors for numerous teams in financial trouble to move and the NHL/Bettman won't allow that. Northern teams moving south like Quebec and Winnipeg is fine but established southern teams moving north, especially to already failed NHL cities or locations that infringe on established markets and upsetting the regional balance of teams just isn't going to happen despite your 150,000 supporters. The NHL would be better served to allow the sale of the troubled team to a deep pocketed corporation that can operate the team in its existing location. The courts are not going to dictate policy to the NHL or any other sports league for that matter. If you'd like a website thats on the cutting edge of hockey news and transactions try hockeybuzz.com
Kansas City didn't have a good team either. A cadaver would have lost interest. Phoenix is having similar problems. Denver and Atlanta may follow.
Doesn't Minneapolis already have a NHL club in its sister city next door in Saint Paul?
I wonder why Houston isn't on the list? Houston is as large as Dallas, larger than every city on the list.
Frankly, to spread hockey as a sport into a new city, the NHL needs to think of placing a good team in the new city. Not division winners mind you, but something above doormat status.....

So was Colorado when the Rockies moved to New Jersey. The Avalanche does fine now so who knows, maybe Kansas City 30 years later could support a new team. Not sure if they could, but I don't think KC losing their team so long ago necessarily rules them out for another chance at a franchise.
