Wow... Disgusting game so far lol... Not even through the 2nd, 6-1. This is exactly what I did not want to see anymore of during this Finals, after the first two games. Panthers making it clear that they simply do not belong in the Finals after barely scraping into the playoffs. And it's not just the score. Vegas is running circles around the Panthers, forcing them to stay on the ice for 2 min shifts as they watch Eichel dance around their zone.
Anyway... What's that song the Vegas fans are singing? Almost sounds like soccer/football chants.
It's a shame they beat the Bruins, Leafs and Hurricanes.

This was just about as bad as that Habs/Lightning finals a few seasons ago. Tons of hype for the underdog... And then goalie can only play God for so long, and reality hits.
I will say, watching Eichel has been quite fun. He's not flashy like some other players, and so won't get much play in highlight reels, but to those who truly know hockey, in particular those who have played/still play, the stuff he does is quite amazing. He and Jack Hughes are my top 2 guys in terms of offensive IQ at the moment. I'm trying to think of a third, but can't at the moment. If they can both remain healthy for the next 5 years+, they will be a thrill to watch.
I thought the same thing, but the viewership numbers tell a different story. This series is drawing 2.75 million viewers on TNT, the 2nd highest for a cable-only series. That really isn't bad, but it could be better with some national TV coverage.
Vegas operates at 104% of capacity, best in the NHL. People here have really taken to the Golden Knights and about 90% of their attendance is locals.
I went to Game 2 where the VGK won 7-2, and T-Mobile Arena was a madhouse. It's pretty amazing at how popular this team has become in a relatively short amount of time. Even their practices are packed. The other day people were lining up at 4:00 in the morning!
That’s because they had a good team from the start. Wait until they drop to the bottom of the standings and we’ll see what happens.

Fair statement. We haven't really seen Vegas have a bad team yet. They missed the playoffs last year with a friggin' 94 point season. That's the worst they've ever done.
Caps fans, like me, remember the 70's. 8-67-5. It's like a bad locker combination.
But.. Vegas has a pretty transitory population, and ALWAYS has large numbers of tourists.. So, I don't think you're really going to see much dropoff. Perhaps changing demographics, but they'll keep up the sellouts.
I have seen most games or HLs of the playoffs. I dont see how Eichel has so many assists. What constitutes an assist nowadays? Do you just have to be on the ice when the goal is scored?
He did not score a goal since game 5 against Edm. In the Dallas series he has an assist every game almost, and against Fla 8 total assists.

He has created tons of plays that lead to goals. I think he was phenomenal particularly in this Finals series. The three assists he has yesterday were all from terrific plays that few could have pulled off. He's not flashy, so they are hard to miss, but it's the little things he does that generate chances. Look at the ones from last night again.
He also wore out the Panthers multiple times by putting on figure skating displays in their zone, basically just circling around with the puck, forcing them to stay on the ice for 2+ minutes. When Vegas really took off was once he started dancing around like that, tiring them out. I never paid much attention to him before, but after this, he absolutely has a new fan in me.

Sounds like sour grapes to me.
You don't live here so you have no idea what the fan base is like and how much this franchise means to Las Vegas. Nobody is going to abandon this team, no matter what they do.
In the expansion draft they picked the players the other teams didn't want and were even paid to take certain players. They were picked for last place. This year's team had only six of the original members, and management deserves some credit for putting this team & coaching staff together.
Like I said, sour grapes. Some people just can't acknowledge success and will say anything to pi$$ on someone else's parade.

How could it be sour grapes? I don’t really care about Vegas. I just have experience in an original six city where the hockey team is really popular. Even there, when they started losing, attendance went down. I like your team too, but you have no idea whether people will still fill the arena when they’re winning less than 15-20 games and far out of contention. I won’t say what you believe is impossible. All I’m saying is that it is very unlikely to stay this way if they become really bad. If I’m wrong, I’ll be happy for them, but we won’t know until it happens.
The only way to light up national TV ratings in a Cup final is by having some of the big media markets in the Cup final (Mont/Tor/NYR and to a lessor extant Boston/Chi/Det/LA). The insanely slow, hard cap increases (cap was 39 million in 2005-2006, now 82.5 for this past season) have sucked the big markets into the mediocrity zone. Hockey has what it wanted, a system where a team can come out of the 8th seed, get hot, and get to a Cup final.
At a minimum, there should cap accommodation for home grown talent and/or free agents along the lines of the Bird rule in the NBA. The insane turnover of NHL rosters contributes to the mediocrity.
The NHL's failure to follow the NBA's methods for growth can be directly laid at the feet of Bettman and the Board of Governors. I guess NHL team owners make so much money and the value of the NHL teams has increased so much that they just do not care and never will.

Teams in Stanley Cup finals can't be decided on purpose, can they?
