Hello all,

Well, your Anaheim Ducks have made it to the Stanley Cup final and as I write this, they hold a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series. I'm writing this to get a feel of where hockey stands in So. Cal.

Is the media covering this major event in sports going on right now? Is there a buzz in the city about hockey right now, specifically asking those of you living in the Anaheim area? Is this something you hear people discussing when you're walking on the street? Are the radio stations talking about this on the morning show?

Give me a little bit of feedback, Californians. I am a Canadian from Ottawa and of course, this is HUGE for my city as our country embraces the sports. There are downtown parties for every game and one of the roads is blocked off to cars because of the wandering fans. A few big screens set up for people to watch in big groups. It's a fun time here.

Now, tell me, is there anything happening in the Anaheim area or people simply do not care?

Thanks for the replies all!

(You will one day find me among your population )

This isn't Ottawa or even the US Northeast. Hockey's not real big out here. SoCal has a lot of fairweather fans who don't really care about a sport or a team until they make the playoffs/finals.

Default Anaheim Stanley Cup Finals

Hi Ocuri,
I don't live in Anaheim but have been going to all of the home playoff games. There isn't much hype about the Stanley Cup playoffs around here unless it's game day and then it's a zoo around the Honda Center. I've been disappointed in the television coverage in that it hasn't really been on a major network until this past Saturday and now I believe the rest of the games will be on NBC. Hockey is most definitely more popular in the east and in Canada. I don't think hockey's been the same around here since the lock-out a few years ago. Maybe that will change if the Ducks end up winning the Stanley Cup this year. Who knows.

There have been some places in the area that have been having game parties and giving out prizes, etc., but those have mostly taken place during the away games.

Baseball is definitely bigger here. There was all kinds of hype going on when the Angels made it to the World Series in 2002.

Hope this at least helps some!

well as a former southern Cali resident you'll be happy to know that I have followed the Ducks all season and into the playoffs here in MO. I also would like to say that game three featured some of the WORST officiating I have seen in years of watching hockey. It is one of my favorite sports because it's about the game and not some hot shot preening and strutting around like most of the other major league sports. I just want the zebras to call a fair game no matter who comes out on top.
