$8000 on a dollar machine (three dollars a pull) and it was My boss's fault
I am a IT guy for my company in NYC, and day 1 of my vacation my cell phone rings at 6:00AM I answer it and it's Eddie my boss
"Eddie, Its 6AM here in Las Vegas" I say "Well it's 9AM in NYC" he replies.
anyway I help him with his problem, and now can't back to sleep. My Girlfriend is grumply sleeping and I decide not to bother her, so I get dressed and go to the casino to "waste a few hours" and end up playing a 12X diamond reel. after about 20 mins of play, I get Three bars Times 12 Times 12 ($8000) I call up my girlfriend who wakes up and answers the phone in a angry voice "WHAT!!!!!" I say "Get down here, I just hit a jackpot"
The trip took a upward turn after that
Jonathan
(and to those who ask, YES I split the winnings with her)
Won about $1200 on a 5 cent progressive jackpot video poker machine. Probably lost that back trying to hit the jackpot on 25 cent progressive video poker machines where the jackpots were all above $6,000 and due to hit. They did all hit soon after I started playing them, but not for me.
I never win in Vegas...just go every so often to sayHello to my money.
Now my parents (mainly dad) was lucky at the crap table w/o ever touching the dice.
My mother on the other hand played the slots (nickel or dime) most of the time.
Anyway she hit the $100 cherries and the change girl asked mother to play one time to clear them. Mother does and the change girl hears a sound none of us would distinguish. She calls for a repairman who found a loose screw and he told my mother she was lucky. He fixes the screw...closes it up and my mother puts in another coin and the bell rings again before the man got 10 ft away...another $100 winner. He turned around and told her she was one real lucky person. He did not touch the machine again but walked away. Luck does work in strange ways.
I don't play the slots, but on a cross-country car buying trip we stopped late one night in LV for the (cheap) food and lodging enroute to LA.
One of our drivers said he'd play the slots, just to say he'd been there and done that. He was just going to walk up to a random slot, put $5 in, and walk away, knowing that he wasn't going to win anything. So he picks out a machine at the MGM as we're leaving the buffet where we ate, and he drops $5 in, pulls the handle, and is already walking away to keep up with us ... and the slot starts ringing bells and flashing lights and all the hoopla that goes with a big win. The change girl had seen him at the slot and knew it was his play ... and that it was a large enough payout that it was done by the attendants, so she grabbed him by the shoulder and brought him back. $5,000, it was some sort of progressive payout linked deal .... I don't think any of us knew that was a possible payout, one machine was as good as another for all we could care.
Of course, our lucky friend figures he's on a roll at that point. Didn't take him an hour to feed it all back to the machines but a couple of hundred that he kept for his expenses on the trip.
About $5000 on a wheel of fortune dollar machine at the South Point in Vegas. I pumped in about $200 before it paid off. Same evening I won about $1000 at video poker at the bar. Got drunk as a skunk after that.
My wife and I went in 2000, her first time in the dingy city. 4 Queens had deal, for $20 you got $50 in player chips. These have to be used and can not be cashed in. I put a $5 chip on #15 in roulette, it hit. I let it all ride and it hit again. My wife asked what do we do now, I said cash it in and quit. We got over $5000 on letting that bet ride.
$30, on cruise to Mexico. oh did I mention the part where it was a bucket of nickels....
