For my History Class we had a take home quiz and one of the questions was...
- Why was Woodrow Wilson critical of Theodore Roosevelt’s gunboat diplomacy?
A. He was a pacifist.
B. He thought it a bully tactic.
C. He was determined to deal with Latin America with respect.
D. He thought that war was justified only in cases of self defense.
E. All of the above.
Sadly, I didn't think of posting here to get help before I turned it back, I marked "D" as my answer.
None of the choices are really all that great, but I would go with "D" as well. Wilson was not a pacifist as he strongly believed that democracy should be defended by military means if needed. The others are pretty much fluff answers, while Wilson did treat Latin America better than Roosevelt, the amount of "respect" is questionable. "B" sort of falls in line with only using force for defense.
