Saw an episode last night that would have had WW2 buffs drooling and museums pulling their hair out by the roots. Man came into the pawn shop. His dad drove the landing craft at Iwo Jima. His dad kept the landing battle plans. These were the plans that showed the boats where to land on the island and other key pieces of information. They sometimes get odd items over 500 years old. One item they received was a sundial compass with a hidden compartment that contained a miniature weather vane that you mount to the pocket size device.
I like American Pickers better. Would have loved to see the plans for the Iwo landing though. I've only seen P.S. twice, but interesting both times. One episode was about 20 or 30 seconds of footage of FDR getting into a limo and driving away that the guy wanted over 150 grand for, and another was a bunch of coins from a shipwreck that had fused into a giant pile. This didnt sell either but the bald guy really was impressed with them. The seller wanted huge bucks for it, over half a million dollars.
It's amazing the "stuff" people bring in on Pawn Stars..... I could swear those battle maps were authenticated..... I dunno, American Pickers, eh.... Most shows I've seen the people won't part with anything they have... plus they always show you what they paid for an item and what it's worth, but with alot of things they buy what is the cost to refurb the item? Was the buy really worth it?
....and those battle plan maps were authenticated?
Yes, the battle plans were authenticated by their local expert. I find the show entertaining, and at the same time can learn a lot of history from the strangest things that get brought in.
