I have a stiff neck. It is severe and hard to move my neck. I need some way to relieve the pain. Any ideas?

I'd use heat; a heating pad or bengay.

Put some Epsom Salts in a basin of water as hot as you can stand it. Then wring out a hand towel or wash cloth in the water and apply it to your neck. Leave it on until it feels cool. Epsom Salts are great for sore muscles and sprains. I learned this from the husband of one of my friends - he was a football player in the Canadian league during the season. I asked him b/c I figured if anyone could help me, it would be him. And he did!

I love epsom salts too. It should be noted that it will cool any water that it is added to but it needs the hot water to dissolve fully. I use it to cool burns and yes that includes sunburn.

A stiff neck can be a symptom of meningitis, so if it is accompanied by fever and headache you should go to a doctor and get checked out. If you just slept on it funny those Theracare heating pads work really well.

A sore stiff neck, particularly a very painful one may have something to do with the nerves and I wouldn't recommend heating the area to try to get relief as it could make matters significantly worse.

Your best bet is to go speak to your doctor and get a correct diagnosis and treatment. In the meantime those liquid gel ibuprofen capsules seem to aleviate my neck pain the fastest so maybe think about having a couple of those?
