I am 21 my hairline started receding when I was 17 about to turn 18. It hasn't gotten much worse but it's still receding. The left side is receding more than the right side and it's in a weird pattern. My dad doesn't have a receding hairline. He has a bald spot and is thinning but his hairline is still there and he started balding when he was 39 he's now 49 and still has his hairline. There no hairloss from my moms side. So I don't know what to think or do about my hairline. Help me out guys.

Genetics. Someone along your family line is the culprit. Similar in my family, brother had red hair, only one in immediate family, discovered great grandfather was a redhead.

It's weird though because from my dads immediate family there's no receding hairline. There barely any hairloss. My dads dad didn't have any hairloss so I think my dad inherited it from his moms side. But the few men in my immediate family(Dads side, no hairloss from moms side) who do have some type of hairloss started losing it when they were older and from the back of their head.

You can try 1mg of finasteride daily, or do finasteride and minoxidil or some people try the "natural route" with saw palmetto or just embrace the baldness and shave your head! But like others have said, male pattern baldness is genetic with some other hair loss being stress related.

I would think that it's genetic if I would have started losing my hair in the same way the men in my family are losing theirs. But since the hairline and there's no receding hairline in my famiu I don't know what to think. It might be genetics and it might not be.

I work in science and genetics is not always "cut and dry", while genes can't disappear and reappear, the expression or manifestation of genes, can skip generations under some circumstances.

Your mothers father is the one to look at. He holds the key for pattern baldness.

That's what I was told, but it didnt hold in my case. My maternal grandfather died at 85 with a full head of hair. I have hair loss which started in late 30s.
