Nationally known pharmacy:
medication #1 $119.99
medication #2 $18.99
medication #3 $16.50

like magic if you join their "program" for $20 per year, the above prices go down to $22.50, $10.00, and $13.99 respectively.

My local and regional grocery store chain and pharmacy:
the same medication #1 is only $7.99.
the same medication #2 is only $3.99.

My local health clinic pharmacy:
the same medication #3 is $9.99.

Don't the same drug companies make these drugs?

Why is there no price regulation.

The grocery store that has #1 for $7.99 is 1/2 mile from the pharmacy that charges $119.99.

FOr OTC drugs, Wal-MArt is not necessarily the cheapest. I take a supplement that is about $5 cheaper at my local gorcery but a different brand.

Are you uninsured OP? I am and I've taken notice of your research. I let me $20 prescription plan expire from that national drug store chain and will be looking at the alternatives in my area.

No not insured.
You being down hear Myrtle Beach, you should compare Rx prices from that national chain to Bi-Lo and Harris Teeter.

I actually live in Bi-Lo's (not WD's) hometown so we don't have HT up here. Thanks for the info!

My Bi-Lo has one of my meds for $4.00. It is $18.99 at WALGREEN, if I do not pay $20 for their program.
If I do pay the $20 (per year) then the $18.99 is down to $10.00.

Since both give me the generic, then why is one $4, and the other at least 250% higher? ($10) (+ a $20 a year fee)

The same company makes the drug.
Is Bi-Lo taking a loss on it? I doubt that.

Over the years I have found that Walgreen, CVS, and Rite Aid are all the highest drug prices in town.
It's true and if they deny it, let them sue me.

The U.S. Government needs to regulate drug prices. The variances from a grocery chain to a national pharmacy are too wide.

How do you think that those three stores pay for the huge expansion of convenient bricks and mortar stores all over? I think we have one every half mile all over town. And a Walgreen will be right next to or across the street from a CVS.

When I can get one of my meds at Harris Teeter for $7.99 and Walgreen charges $119.99, something is wrong.
The pharmacy staff at Harris Teeter are licensed and have salaries.

Harris Teeter has a much larger store than a Walgreen and a CVS put together, as far as square feet.
Harris Teeter, just one store, has far more employees.

Walgreen and CVS do sell a larger line of cosmetics, more school supplies, less produce if any at all, and HT does not have photo department, etc.

I've priced all my drugs over the last 15 years. I call the others and always end up at Bi-Lo, Harris Teeter, or in some cases Target or K-Mart when they are giving $10 gift cards, or Walmart.

There are innocent, and un-informed persons, maybe elderly and low income who buy their meds from the national pharmacies like Walgreen, CVS and Rite Aid and they are somewhat being ripped off.

I called Bi-Lo and they are about $20 cheaper than CVS without any insurance. We have some kind of free plan that brings the cost much closer to Bi-Lo's so we will stay where we are for now but if CVS raises the price we will probably defect at that time.
