Hi,

we will be moving to Harrisburg area for my husband's job soon. My 5 year old son is a special needs student with autism who needs services in public school.

Ive heard that Cumberland valley school district is great overall and so is Derry. Can anyone please tell me which school districts in the Harrisburg area are good for a special needs student with autism?

Also, we are moving from close to NY and live in a pretty suburban setting but with a very north east flavor. I am worried about the cultural change in Harrisburg....can anyone throw light on how the move was coming from a urban place?

Thanks a lot!!!

Check out the website of the Autism Society of Harrisburg...they have a Yahoo group you can join and they should be able to recommend areas of Harrisburg for good autism services in public schools. Good luck!

It's been a couple months since your post so you may have already moved, but this is a list I was given: Susquehanna Township SD in Harrisburg. Derry Township (Hershey), Lower Dauphin (Hershey), Penn Manor (Millersville-Lancaster area), Camp Hill SD.
The schools further south--Chambersburg, Waynesboro, Greencastle, etc are all ones to avoid.
