Personally i like the Omni in Newport News. has a big indoor pool and a lot to do, may be a little far to drive to Norfolk or VA Beach though.

Barb, i'm not sure if any of the hotels down at the strip have hotels with indoor pools. Mostly outdoor because of the beach and summer. Up in Williamsburg is the Great Wolf Lodge, that is a super inhouse water resort and geared towards kids, but if you are here to be with family that commute would be too far.

I believe the Marriott in downtown Norfolk has an indoor pool. It's a nice hotel and within walking distance to lots of restaurants and MacArthur Mall. Also, if you are members of your local YMCA, downtown Norfolk has a YMCA with an indoor pool. Usually YMCA's let out of state members 'visit' for free or for a nominal fee.

There are a good number of hotels on the strip in Va Bch that have indoor pools but I am not sure you will find any that have any type of structured activitites for kids.
The Great Wolf Lodge will be the closest place for fun.....A hotel with an indoor waterpark...but be prepared to pay high $$$ a night and with it being Thanksgiving weekend you can bet on at least a two night minimum stay required if not more
