True but all except VT have a permit if you want one. Personally I'd get the permit so I could carry in other states, most of which require a permit from your home state. I'd want positive ID & a BOS seems common sense.

I have sold guns to other folk's but I do it by the book with a document recording everything from who it is, where they live , their FOIC # and a right and left thumb print.

One guy didn't want to give me a thumb print so I escorted him out of my house on the business end of the gun he wanted to buy.

Hey, it's YOUR gun! If those jerks don't want to meet your terms...send them along! Like I said, most legit people don't have a problem with it. I've offered to show my CHL to buy an AK before. The guy said not to worry about it. I asked him why? He said...you look like a COP! lol You are good! Personally, I don't see it!

It seems that since the bad guys are able to buy whatever they want from the US government, I'm afraid my inventory just wouldn't appeal to them so the question is moot.

Mine is too! I LOVE everything I have at this point in my life. NOTHING is going buh bye while I'm still breathing. My Sis's boys are gonna hit the motherload someday! Make sure you stop by every now and then boys to leave a empty case or two on Unck's grave!

I cover my butt. As to the BOS not being worth a crap? Sure is. It's legally binding in my state. Probably isn't where you live.

Haven't touched your rights, it woud be you infringing on my rights to have proof that I transfered that firearm to another person, should it be used in a crime later. When they trace it, I want something showing that I no longer own it, and like I say, where I live, we, and the courts, still honor a bill of sale.

More like YOU will have to keep moving on down the road trying to get your money.

One of the guys on the local gun forum keeps posting up guns and saying he wants BOS, copy of buyers DL (I would not do this... someone you don't know will know where you live, have a gun (Minimum) worth stealing etc. Not safe.)

He doesn't seem to get why he doesn't sell very often if at all.

I think it makes sense I use my judgement if I'm selling a gun. It's a felony to knowingly sell to a felon, so anyone I know is a felon based on the local news is already a no on any non-antique. I'm not about to ask for thumbprints, police involvement, etc., that's over the top.

I hope he was joking, too.
Since I would not have been a threat to him, having him point a gun at me is criminal. He would be be visited by the local sheriff, and then be expected to put on his best bib-and-tucker in front of the judge.
Personally, I don't care about being fingerprinted, as I have been so many times for the stuff I buy, my fingers are permanently stained black
But I would never, ever give my fingerprints to anyone other than a law enforcement agency official.

The term 'unintelligent' was a nicer term than what I would have used. [/quote] That's^ NOT always the case guys. That GUY was in house. He let someone in who could have been a felon and prohibited person. He was tresspassing NOW! Chances are, if he was bulking at the thumb print, he didn't want to show a drivers license either. I've seen those guys many times. Face to face brings out all the guys who can't buy one elsewhere. It's up to you to refuse the sale. Most guys, when rufused, get quite NASTY about it at the same time. Maybe the "business end" was NEEDED to get him OUT of the house. Without actually being there, we can't make that call. Oh, and for the fingerprints...I have never done that or had anyone ask personally. If I wanted the gun bad enough, or it was a great deal, I would do it. Before the FBI background checks, EVERYONE gave them (all 5 at least) on the State form for handguns to the FFL. That form was sent to the State Police and the other was sent to the buyers local PD. NO BOS can come back to haunt you. In two weeks...YOUR new gun is reported stolen by the former owner. Good luck with that one!

He can keep it moving along! You don't need to make a sell like that. I had a kid with his Dad try to buy a handgun from me. The kid (approx 14-15) says... "I'll take it!". I said NO YOU WON'T Jr! His Dad said... "I'm his Dad...I'll buy it then"! I said..NO YOU WON'T! Normally, 14 to 15 year old kids keep their mouths shut when buying a handgun. They aren't legal to do so. Do they go into the "package stow (store lol)" with their Dad and whip a bottle of Jack up on the counter with their Dad standing behind them? Hell NO, they don't! After you buy it, and get out of here and home, what you do about it is your business. It's a "gift" then. I didn't sell it to the "kid" and have HIM pay me with his Dad standing behind him!

Just where and in what book are you required to give/obtain a thumb print for buying a firearm through a private sale and then granted the power to threaten said buyer with lethal force when buyer disagrees with finger printing?
