Apple has signed a proposal to enter Haywood Mall and is wrapping up a lease, and should be open there possibly by end of year, but more likely early 2010. That is a big blow to MPTC, as they could have built around Apple as their lead shop tenant.

Where in Haywood are they going? Isn't Apple a decent sized store?

Not sure what spot. The store will be at least 4,000 square feet. I know Glamour Shots recently closed and now has black plastic on the windows, so it could be there. It's a corner store with windows on both sides so it would definitely look interesting if that was the tenant spot.

The Apple stores I've seen haven't been very big.

I just got back from Haywood Mall. There were only a few empty retail spaces in the whole mall. Only one of the spaces was located in an area not stuck in a corner somewhere and had plastic on the gate/windows. Unless a retailer leaves or moves to somewhere else in the mall, i'm thinking the old Glamour Shots space is going to be the Apple Store. Sorry for the quality of pics. They were taken with my cell phone with the sun glaring:

No need to wait for an Apple store. Just go to the iPlace store in downtown.

True.

I don't know how an Apple store would anchor a shopping center. Even the flag ship store on Michigan Ave in Chicago isn't that big.
