I'm looking for opinion and info on how Greenville handles kids with Autism-spectrum disabilities. I've heard they mostly "mainstream" these kids with others, but do have some "resource rooms" where special needs students are kept in small groups.
My child is on the mild side and currently mainstreamed, but definitely still qualifies as special needs and has an IEP (individual education plan) in another state.
Even if your child isn't special needs, your "typical" child probably goes to school with these kids, so you may know how the district handles them. If you know a school that does this well, please mention it!

thanks
I just wanted to let you know that although I can't answer your question right this moment, i'll pop back in later with a good answer, my wife is a school psychologist with the district and when she gets home this evening i'll quiz her for you
We're coming from Florida and our youngest is in the Autism cluster down here. Her IEP yearly meeting was last week so I asked about how things would be handled. They explained that we will take the IEP to the next state (SC) and that there is some federal standard where they will use the same goals to set things up for her at her new school. Right now she is in 2nd grade and mainstreams for 90 minutes each day. I'm hoping that the SC system won't be too much of a change for her. I'll keep an eye on this thread to see what Noodles' wife has to share since my question is almost identical to the OP's.
Thanks Noodles! That is exactly the kind of info we're looking for. I'll be contacting the school district too, but an independent opinion is often more valuable.
