We have been living with GMOs for a few years. Though we may not be sure what the real side-effects (if any) will be in another 15-20 years, it does seem there is some information coming to light that will make believers out of doubters..
To clarify: The head of Syngenta, Hans-Theo Jahmann, is being criminally charged in Germany and Switzerland with allegedly withholding evidence (the alleged negative results of their own 1996 Bt176 corn trials) in the civil case brought against them by Gottfried Gloeckner, a German farmer whose cattle were part of the company's feed trials (1997-2002).
The criminal case has not been tried, the allegations and the validity of the alleged 1996 report have yet to be determined. If and when the case goes to trial, the court will decide whether Jahmann, as the head of Syngenta, is liable for the death of Gloeckner's cattle (and any related instances) because the company had prior knowledge of risks and did not communicate that information to the participants of later feeding trials, and whether Jahmann again withheld this evidence and denied knowledge of it in previous civil lawsuits (both are criminal acts under German and Swiss law).
I'm closing this thread preemptively before it devolves into another anti- vs. pro-GMO bickering match.
