Should be. After 75 (approx) people slow down mentally. Maybe not a huge amount, but it is a fact that mental decline kicks in. We need leaders to be on the ball, and just as 35 is the lower limit to ensure experience, 75 (ish) should be the upper cap at the time of inauguration to ensure competence.

Nope because that means Donald Trump still runs in November. I want both Biden and Trump out of the running.
Just as the minimum age to run for president is 35, should the U.S. state that the maximum age to run for president is age 70 (they cannot turn 70 before the election). If a president turns 70 during their first term, it would make them uneligible to run for second term. Even in good health, 70 + is too old for the stress of the oval office.
I have no problem with not being able to run for the House and Senate once you have reached the age of 70 -- my age -- but it's not as essential as for the presidency. 1 versus 535.
Who would be your ideal for a candidate, if not the two you mentioned? I'm trying to ask within the context of the topic of maximum age.
I'd like to see Nikki Haley run as the republican candidate and Michelle Lujan Grisham as the democrat (would have chosen Amy Klobuchar if she hadn't resigned).
Yup.... but I'd probably say 75 being the limit.... making it a 40 year age window for someone to run for president.... 35-75. Late 70's and up also tends to be where many mental and physical difficulties for some people start to kick in, and one becomes "elderly".
Basically, a 75 age limit for president would ensure every sitting president would be between the ages of 35 and 80. So for example, Biden would not be able to run for president in 2020.

People always underestimate Bernie. He was an excellent small city mayor, a congressman, and a senator. I think he's wrongheaded on some issues, but he has always seemed to care about the working class and until recently he eschewed identity politics. H'e still mentally sharp. No age limit should be instituted. Let the voters decide.
The problem with Bernie isn't how he has been for the past decade.... obviously he's been articulate and seems mentally healthy. My issue, and I'm sure many other peoples' issue, is how mentally fit he will be 2,3, and 4 years down the line. If Bernie was elected this year, he would be 82 years old, 3 years into his presidency. And with no age limit, then what if he gets re-elected when he's 83? Then we would have a president in his mid to late 80's, which, I think it's safe to say, is too old for this role.
When one reaches their 80's, it's not only a question of mental health, but physical ability as well. Being president, as others have stated, is very stressful. You need to be able to give speeches regularly with authority, constantly travel around the country and world, and put up with a lot of political opposition, and that is not easy for many when they get to a certain age.

If this were the case this year, say hello to your new president, Kanye West.
