I believe the above proposal was prompted (at least in part) by the assault weapons controversy. If such a ban ever was enacted into law, it would probably be ignored by a significant percentage of assault rifle owners in Arizona - for better or worse. Similar laws are being considered in other states as well.

I think the firearms issue has solidly polarized a good portion of the country. It's unfortunate to see this happen.
Personally, I believe that the states were supposed to be able to ignore any law the federal government is not create that is not an enumerated in the Constitution. However, as time has gone by, the federal government has interfere wtih a lot of areas that belong to the states and as a nation we have allowed that. Now it is a mute point because the federal government already has a very good and strong grip on areas that actually belong to the states originally. Take care.

The people in Congress have long ago stopped being "of, by and for the people". This is, of course, our fault for being the sheep that we are (as a group). We have allowed the government to usurp powers that should have been left to the states. The Articles of Confederation were too weak for the federal Government. We've allowed them to garner more than they should have under the Constitution. Maybe it's time for something else.

We broke with Britian because we decided we didn't want to be a part of a peerage/nobility system ruling the rest of us peasants. But all we've done is traded one set of nobility for another. Instead of calling them Dukes, Earls, Barons, Etc., we now call them Senators, Congressman, CEO's, etc.

But the most Godawful truth about this whole mess is that "we, the people" allowed it to occur.
I have made this very same statement about a bagillion times on this board. We are the reason we are in such a mess in this country. When times were good, we reelected people who were not doing their jobs and self seeking because we were fat, happy and not interested in upsetting the status quo. Now that times are bad, we are oh so mad at these people.......but, I bet you we will still reelect them.

I don't listen to Rush too often but I do agreee with his calling some people "low information voters". Most people don't have a clue and no interest in diving below the surface of some "news" item.

Starman, it is a good post.
