Absolutely, it is a freaking debacle of a mess. And there were even estimates that GA was already well over 10 million and likely is now anyway.

There are now 24 counties in Georgia with 100,000+ population. They are, in order...

920,581 - Fulton County
805,321 - Gwinnett County
691,893 - DeKalb County
688,078 - Cobb County
265,128 - Chatham County
259,424 - Clayton County
214,346 - Cherokee County
203,922 - Henry County
200,549 - Richmond County
189,885 - Muscogee County
179,684 - Hall County
175,511 - Forsyth County
155,547 - Bibb County
142,324 - Paulding County
139,900 - Houston County
132,403 - Douglas County
127,317 - Coweta County
124,053 - Columbia County
116,714 - Clarke County
110,527 - Carroll County
109,233 - Lowndes County
106,567 - Fayette County
102,599 - Whitfield County
100,157 - Bartow County

Newton County barely missed the cut, with a population of 99,958.

I'm pleasantly surprised that Chatham County got such high numbers from 232,000 in the 2000 census. That's 33,000+ gain! It's narrowly ahead of Clayton, which probably won't last long.

Even though there was a census conducted, there still have to be estimates due to large numbers of illegal immigrants in Georgia. For metro Atlanta, Clayton county is generally the least desirable place to live in metro Atlanta largely due to the ongoing public school issues.

There were some gains in population in Clayco from '00 to '10. The 2000 census indicates Clayton had 236,000 and in 2010 it was estimated to be at 259,000. Many immigrants live in Clayton, so it is possible with that in mind, more people live in Clayton than in Chatham but one can only do rough estimates by keeping in mind that not all people are being counted. I would call their populations a near even for sure. Savannah probably has some illegal immigrants, but given how limited its economy is, more in sheer numbers are probably concentrated in Clayton county than in the Savannah area.

I noted in another thread on City Data that the 2010 Census data will not be released in its entirely until August 2013 (http://www.census.gov/population/www/censusdata/c2010products.pdf - broken link), so there are more statistics to wait on if you are interested. I like reading about this kind of stuff, so I will wait patiently.

From some quick searches, I don't see the numbers posted yet on the census websites, just the 2009 estimates. I suppose they released their data to media outlets first, and then they will post them later on their website.

Unless I am not finding the proper link, personally, I thought the census bureau would update the website first with 2010 data and then release the data to media outlets. That order seems backwards to me at least.
