I was sure there had to be a post on this, but I searched & didn't find one...?
What is the friendliest state/city/area?
And I don't mean "fake" friendly...
(If you don't know what I mean, please move on... Thank you)
I've found people to be quite friendly in many areas of central and northern Indiana. I don't recommend southern Indiana though because in my case, each time I've been down there or dealt with people from there, they were not very friendly. I've also found people in the Pittsburgh area and Cincinnati area to be friendly.
Rachael. I'm acquainted with a guy in Kansas City (originally from Tennessee) that swears that the people in NYC are the friendliest, most down to earth people he's met. I'm from Connecticut and I have to say I really have not had any bad experiences with any of the people that I've met there during my travels to and from NYC's metro area. Now Kansas City and much of Missouri and eastern Kansas are places where you will find a large number of fake people and plenty that are also unfriendly.

The thing is, if 1 NYer does something mean or nasty to another NYer, there's a big pissing match. I see it all the time. The smallest things can set us off. But we're friendly to strangers, especially tourists
Absolute most friendly? I don't know that there is just one place..
I'll throw in upstate New York. I've heard from a wide variety of sources that it is a very friendly area. The few I've known from there have been some of the more genuine people I've known.
Duluth, Minnesota seemed very nice, too.
