Cleveland - the Cuyahoga River burning in 1969. We still haven't lived that down in a lot of people's minds.

I knew it! I knew mosquito's came straight out of hell.

Thankfully, my hometown of Riverside, California flies under the radar so well that there isn't one thing that it's even well known for, positive or negative. It is Reggie Miller's hometown, and is the birthplace of both Bobby and Barry Bonds.

^This comes the closest. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton marched on the 91 freeway during rush hour.

Several years ago I took some students to a poetry event where one of the student groups came up with the name Chiraq based on their experience growing up in Chicago. I really wish they would have patented that name to make some of the money that will be made off the movie.

Washington DC usually has a pr nightmare every few months from the actions of some of our part time residents. People rarely ask about the social part of the city, just the political part. I dont think any city is talked about less favorably including NY and it rarely has anything to do with the actual city

Albuquerque, NM : Breaking Bad

Great show, but paints an inaccurate and unflattering portrait of the city, and not just for the meth angle.

Orange County, CA--"Real Housewives of Orange County" and "The O.C." Ugh. Too many reasons to mention, but if for nothing other than introducing the lamebrained term "the OC," that second show ought to have been banned.

Virginia Beach- rioting during College Beach Weak. People getting arrested and shot and stabbed. Never good for a resort area that markets itself towards families.

Things that most people know about regarding the city of DC is the Marion Barry scandal, and pretty much the nations capitol also being the murder capitol back and forth with New Orleans back in the 90's .

City Under Seige

"An anguished District of Columbia is America's newly crowned murder capital. Its homicide rate has more than doubled in less than 15 months. By Friday there had been 120 killings already this year in a city of only 650,000. An estimated 60% of the murders were drug related."

Oakland CA (hometown): there's been quite a few things, but probably not more than the guy who killed four police officers about five years back.

Dayton/Springfield OH: I can't think of any PR which exists, unless you count the continued closing & moving of manufacturing companies who originated in Dayton.
