SB 1070 and the MLK Day debacle combined to paint Phoenix and AZ as a racist state, a reputation we can't shake. It's far from the truth but the politics here are universally negative.

One would think a show like Breaking Bad based on the making and distribution of meth would tarnish a city's reputation. But Albuquerque has embraced it, go figure.

In Indy. The state's Religious Freedom Restoration Act made us look like fools a few months back.

Honestly, things like High on Crack Street for Lowell, Mass;Flint, MI's depiction in Semi-pro; or Camden, NJ's/East St Louis's Most Dangerous city monikers are much more damaging to the reputation of those small cities because that is pretty much the only thing you ever hear about them, while people know more about Chicago than crime, its part of the image of the city, not THE image.

New Orleans: pick one. The worst was probably when a cop was caught by the feds putting hits out on citizens in the 90's. Or maybe the handling of Katrina and when how the NOPD killed people and used the coroners office to cover it up. Or a recent little incident where somebody killed a cop from inside the back of a squad car and now a 30+ year NOPD veteran officer and her son are being investigated on helping the killer allude police.

And people here whine about statues. Seriously ... I feel like I'm in a cartoon sometimes. Or a very odd dream.

Detroit's image took a 3 hit combo within the past 10 years. The auto bailout and high unemployment rate, the population loss, and the final hit... the bankruptcy. Somehow outsiders think a municipal bankruptcy means everyone that lives there is poor.

Chicago's image as Chiraq makes Chicago look extremely violent. And it doesn't help that the rappers really promote it as Chiraq and have probably the most violent content out of any group of rappers.

Baltimore with their recent riots wasn't a good look. "The Wire" image was just starting to die down. Now the show might be ripe for a new season.

SC with the shootings and confederate flag on state capital grounds made it appear kind of backwards to lots of people.

Amendment 1 in North Carolina. Even though according to the map above the counties that are seeing influxes of transplants daily voted against it, it was not enough to unapprove the measure and therefore NC was subjected to endless stereotypes that the deep South states have been receiving for years. The moderators on the Visit NC Facebook page were very busy that night and the following day.

(yes I know it says city, but this did no favors for any city in North Carolina)

hadn't been widely reported much but, a University of Minnesota Researcher in the late 1940's conducted an experiment in which he injected Satan's DNA into some hummingbirds to see what would happen and broke the glass box he kept them in, thus unleashing "mosquitos" onto the planet where they quickly spread around the world...sorry about that.
