So far there has been SOME sort of pattern outside of the fact that I didn't really think that local companies pop/soda had much weight in it.

Or southwest/Northwest/Colorado?
I think you are confused. In the South all soft drinks are "coke".Then we have brands, like Coke,Pepsi, etc.Understand?

The real question is:

What do you call soft drinks and what is your location?

Coke for me and I live in Brandywine, Maryland. We don't refer to soda as "pop" here in the DC area and the state of Maryland in general. I just call soda soda. Coke is my most favorite carbonated soft drink.

Well, my location is pretty obvious as when I first read this title I thought of 'pop', as in father or grandpa, not soda - which is what we call it here in New Jersey.

I most commonly drink diet coke, but I'm not a huge soda person.

Also not a huge carbonated drink kinda person, but lately I've been leaning towards Sierra Mist which is made by Pepsi I believe. Or 7-up. Somewhere along the lines Sprite changed their formula and it isn't as good to me.

I call it soda. Not Coke. Not pop.

They make Coke where I live. Guess I bucked the trend?

Sierra mist is a Pepsi product so yes you did haha..and earlier someone said they drink coke from new jersey which is close enough to where Pepsi is made (new york)...so it definitely doesn't always apply.

I'd guess some of the "other" in VA and NC is just "soft drink." I know an elderly lady from that part of the world who never uses the words "soda" or "pop." It's always a "soft drink."

I'm surprised not to see more "other" around Boston. Has "tonic" disappeared?
