I have a question: When you are flying over the midwest - from California to Indiana, say . . .and vice-versa, have you ever seen crop circles from the window of the airplane? I think I have.

Please tell me about that. I had researched before and saw that there is this kind of circular irrigation, but I had never seen any pictures.

The circular pattern appears because sprinkler equipment is rotated around a central pivot point. Here is what the equipment looks like.

The images I linked are from a company that makes center-pivot irrigation equipment (Valmont). You might find their catalog interesting.

EDIT: Obviously this doesn't tell you what mechanism is used, but this map (http://www.agcensus.usda.gov/Publications/2007/Online_Highlights/Ag_Atlas_Maps/Farms/Land_in_Farms_and_Land_Use/07-M080.asp - broken link) shows you where land is irrigated.
