Not sure if this particular version has been done.

NYC should not be in this, but others are debatable.

And no this is not an urban/dense thread at all, nor is it a building skyline thread.

So outside of NYC, what are the best well rounded cities that offer the best amenities in culture, museums, arts, music, entertainment, sports. Basically places which are hubs for their region and everybody can kind of find their "niche".

Rank them 1-10 and let the cards fall where they may!

Here are my thoughts and attempt to rank on your overall criteria

LA
Chicago
SF (Bay area in total)
Boston/Philly
DC
Houston
Atlanta/DFW
Not sure on 10 (Miami, Detroit, Seattle, San Diego could all be in the running, maybe Denver too)

Arts, music, and entertainment are what make you ponder a bit longer on this subject. I was gonna say Chicago second to NY, but originality in art and music scenes are not quite on top of their game in Chi. Museums I will give them and amenities probably too over L.A.. So the list by kidphilly is pretty accurate with L.A. on top or maybe tied with Chi on those, but well rounded in all I give to San Fran

I would split it up. For high culture, museums and arts:

Chicago
Washington, DC
Boston
San Francisco
Philadelphia

For music, entertainment and sports:

Los Angeles
Chicago
Miami
San Francisco
Seattle

L.A.'s cultural/art scene rivals New York's. It's no worse than a close 2nd.

LA
Chicago
DC
SF
Boston
Houston/Philly
Atlanta
Dallas
Detroit
Seattle
Miami
Nashville

Miami is improving but does not compare to Seattle or any other metro I placed above Seattle IMO. Detroit with all its issues is still a cultural powerhouse, the galleries, theaters, plays, museums there are underestimated IMO

Denver has to rank ahead of seattle and nashville at least! We have more pro teams. Red Rocks is THE BEST music venue on Earth. We are quickly developing quite a museum district. And our Performing Arts Center is the 2nd largest in the Nation!

Having the second largest PAC does not mean its better. While size matters its not indicative of quality, only quantity. Why do you feel Denver places above Seattle and Nashville? Pro sports don't have bearings on arts/culture/museums/theater/ballet/orchestra/symphony.

Nashville is the capital of country music with a heavy influence in pop music culture. Huge music artists with world known reputations and power such as Taylor Swift or Miley Cyrus hail from Nashville, their music is not for all but their influence in todays music is undeniable. It's museums and art scene draws transplants from places like Santa Fe and LA. With good measure, its one of the most artistic cities in the U.S. maybe not a power 10 city but nothing less than fifteenth. New Orleans is another city deserving of a rank in the first fifteenth.

LA
Chicago
SF Bay Area
DC
Boston
Philly
Atlanta
New Orleans
Seattle
Detroit

edit: I feel the first seven are self-explanatory. New Orleans has been a music, culinary and party destination for over a century, Seattle is a 21st century cultural capital due to music, drink, and technology, and Detroit is still a top 10 city due to its music, sports, museums and industry.
