Well, not really. We would like to move out-of-state by next summer. Last time either of us did that we were single, in our late teens/early 20's and ran home to our respective families so didn't have to worry about saving up for the move, finding a job first, a place to live, registering son for a new school, etc., etc.

However, as daunting as all of this sounds we are still determined to do it (and do it successfully) but would love to hear any words of encouragement from others who have done/are doing this with success.

Again I understand the importance of having a job before moving down there (or at least one of us) having money saved, an affordable place to live, etc. but would love to hear from others.

Thanks for letting me get this out on here (obviously can't blab this here at work as they all start getting nervous thinking you're leaving next week or something).

Cheers!

Moving is stressful but it can also bring life changing opportunities. Start now going through your stuff and getting rid of what you don't need. This will help you sell your house if you need to plus the more you get rid of the less you have to move. Make a list of all the places you will need to change addresses with. Organize your files and address book. You will want to get copies of your medical records and school records or have them sent directly to your new place. Good luck!

Thanks Luckily we are renting so we don't have to worry about selling a house - just need to get through our lease that runs out the end of next April.

What State are you leaving and which State are you moving to? Have you done any research on where you are moving to yet?

JustinsMama, it is stressful, if you let it. Be organized - make lists of things to terminate at the old place and at the new place. Mark your moving boxes well-room,person,contents. Makes it a lot easier when you get there. If you have to store boxes in a facility, I suggest marking boxes with a number and make list of what is in those boxes. A man that ran a storage facility told me years ago that if thieves break into your unit and can't tell immediately what is in the boxes, they will leave it. Afraid to spend too much time going through the stuff. We've moved three times in the last 11 years with no job until we got there. Everything worked out great. We always spend at least a week in the new place before deciding to move there. Always get a phone book from the area. Even then it's a crap shoot. Good luck, be adventurous.

Your attitude towards the move will have a huge impact on how things go. If you have a positive attitude towards the move, you are half way there to having a successful relocation. However, if you approach this as something you have to do rather than something you want to do, you have an uphill battle ahead of you.

Thanks for everyone's comments. No, I'm excited and ready for this, just have to concentrate on saving money, finding jobs and consolidating a lot of stuff.

Thanks again everyone!
