I've been in a location I absolutely loathe for a long time. I had obligations & now that the situation has changed I can finally get out of this miserable state. So I have a list of maybe half a dozen places I'd like to move to. My intention is live in each different state a year. Thoughts?
I love this idea, have considered something similar myself-renting for 1-2 years in places that interest me. I hate where I live also. I have family here (mother, 2 sisters, neices/nephews, etc), but have few friends because I have nothing in common w/anyone here-different philosophies and interests. I have a small house that I loathe, but it's paid for, and has obviously given me shelter while I consider my options. I don't want to "move up" in housing in a city I hate, so I've stayed in the same home, resenting the yard work and anything that goes wrong lol. For some reason I can't take the plunge-I keep putting it off, so I say go for it while you're feeling motivated to! I'd love to hear how things go for you!
When I was in my 20's, I moved from Dallas to LA. No job. I lined up a room to rent in a house before I moved. Packed up my car and headed out. Great experience!
So where are you now OP? I want to do this as well, I have to sell my house first. I've been living in IN forever and no matter where I move, it will be more expensive than my small mortgage payment. That's my fear, not being able to make enough to cover bills. I have money saved, live simply, I just know CO and UT are more expensive and don't seem to pay more. I'd also like to check out WA. Somewhere with mountains and it's not humid/muggy.
OP, I say if you have no obligations and don't have to worry about the money part or if you can find work readily, then I'd go for it if I were you. Why not?

I envy your bravery. Go for it....
