Forgive me if this has been discussed, I am just finding myself at a current loss as to what to do. I'm moving from SC to WA in approx 40 days.
Now, I have a condo, my things are alright, but nothing extraordinary/heirloom/etc. I have considered ditching my furniture and just buying new things once I arrive; however, I would still have nearly 15 boxes of clothing/kitchen items/photos/etc.
Is there a good way to ship just 15 boxes or so? Or do I need to really decide between keeping all I have or nothing I have?? I rarely drive, so driving a U-haul, etc for thousands of miles, is likely a non-option for me.
Check out some of popular mobile/portable container transportation companies. Their container options range in size from 250 cubic feet all the way up to 1600 cu.ft. Most provide service between South Carolina and Washington.
If you have a friend or someone who could store your boxes until you get there, that is probably the cheapest way to go. USPS or UPS, and just ship them the slowest way possible. A move cross-country would probably cost you alot more than your furniture is worth so it's probably cheaper or breakeven to just sell what you have and buy new stuff when you get there.
I agree with the above posts see if you can put your stuff in storage and try to rent a furnished place where you are going. It would seem expensive and not worth the trouble for 40 days.

Wow! What a great post! Lots of people don't realize when they are moving that some of the things are just not worth it! Here is a quick list I think may help:
Not worth it - anything IKEA, pressboard, futons, etc
Worth it - heirlooms, sentimental items
Books? A box of books costs about $21 to ship from Massachusetts to Florida ( per Monster Movers ) so is it worth it? I guess it depends on the books.
This is NOT a "small move" ... nor is it a short move.

Try selling whatever you can then dump the rest.
