Watched "Finding Your Roots" on PBS. So Ty Burrell has an African 4th or 5th grandmother. So is he and his family Black because of the One Drop or is he White because he looks it or just an archaic rule that's no longer used?

It is an archaic concept best relegated to the history books.
Only if the individual himself chooses to self identify as Black for reasons of cultural heritage affiliation -- as a positive affirmation of heritage to honor his ancestors.
Otherwise, it is an archaic relic of a bygone era, historical footnote only.

It had nothing to do with actual biology or genetics but was more about increasing the amount of property and equity you had. Horrible but true.
I always heard that people with "one drop" always had throwbacks, kids with kinky hair and such.
Do you even know how many latinos I have met with kinky hair...and the red, jew fro was actually used to identify jews in the early 1930's in Europe...whether they claimed to be jewish or not.
