If you royal ancestry you'd have a lot of mixing. A royal English line of mine has Spanish and Portuguese dynastic branches.

But Ancestry draws this region a bit more broadly to include parts of France and Italy as well.

Cool. I don't think we qualify--ancestors for which we know occupations were mostly farmers.

I've done Ancestry as well and here are my results to compare. I'm only of Irish ancestry though but it gives an idea. Not surprisingly Ireland is the major part of my results. The most interesting thing is the Europe East and European Jewish but I've tested at 23andMe and FTDNA and Ancestry is the only place this shows up.

Ancestry

Ireland 91%
Trace Regions 9%
Europe East 3%
Europe West 2%
Great Britain 2%
European Jewish 1%
Scandinavian 1%
Interesting. Do you now live in Ireland?

I see southern France, northern Italy and Spain Portugal are similar genetically.

Don't assume you don't have royal ancestry because your immediate family is low / middle class. It could be way back. Almost half of people of Western European descent is a child of Charlemagne, probably several times over.

Thanks; that makes sense.

My guess would be that most Aussies, like North Americans, would also have more of a mix.

Most likely. Although it is surprising that a lot of Australians just have ancestry from Britain and Ireland but this is changing rapidly. Older Australians are a lot less mixed.
