I'm 100% positive it's not liriope. I'm very familiar with liriope (have 2 different kinds).
The exact opposite of your story happened to me....I have some beautiful variegated liriope along the back of my carport that never bloomed. Several trees had been allowed to grow from seed in them and had grown pretty large by the time we bought the house. They were too close to the carport, so I eventually cut them after a few years....the very next year, the liriope bloomed like mad! I don't generally care much for liriope, but this kind is pretty.
