HELP! My garage and back door of my house is infested with Boxelder bugs! I have had this problem before in the spring and last fall. Someone told me to dump soapy water around the foundation of the garage and area around my back door. I also sprayed some kind of bug spray too.
They did seem to go away but were back two days later. And now it seems they have bred and there are more of them, only tinier like babies.
Does anyone have any suggestions how else I can get rid of these little buggers? Or is it time for me to call an exterminator which I really don't want to do because that would probably be expensive?

It's funny but I just had someone else ask me about the same bugs. Not sure about your weather conditions but it seems that they are coming out in droves because it has been a hot summer, mild winter and another hot summer combination that they thrive on. Try reading up on them in the following link which has excellent info on what they are, what you are seeing and how to keep them out of the house and which insecticides work.

What types of trees do you have in your yard?

I had some maples that attracted boxelder bugs to my yard, where they found their way to the house, usually massing on a sunny wall. Fortunately (?), the maples were knocked down by tornadoes and now the bugs aren't around (J&Em's link mentions the attraction to specific trees).

There are trees nearby in my neighbors yard. Probably some are maples. They like my garage because it's in full sun all day. I've been doing the soapy water thing and bug spray. They seem to be diminishing a little bit but the little buggers are still hanging around.
