Looking to plant one tree on my tree lawn this spring. I'm looking for a tree that grows no more than 25 feet or so high, doesn't branch out low and wide( when full grown) and prefer a flowering one but open to all suggestions. Thanks for your help!
Oops, sorry, forgot that important bit. Zone 5/6, in Northeast PA. City I live in is in zone 6, surrounding mountains zone 5. Probably 15 feet from the edge of the house, not directly in front of it. Thx
I can tell you what to plant in TX but not in PA. Go to a local nursery or 2 and talk to them about quality native trees. Ask them what will add value to your home.
Note that fast growing trees usually have short life and many problems, get something high in quality. Here I would recommend one of the oaks like a Red Oak or Live Oak.
A little fertilizer and water and even Oak tress grow fairly fast.
The type of tree you can plant also depends on how much sun and moisture the area gets as well as the ph. You can research these factors, but based only on the zone, you can consider these shorter trees:
1. Serviceberry - native. Has edible fruit. Flowers early spring. Pretty fall foliage.
2. Redbud (cercis canadensis) - native. Has seed pods. Hot pink flowers in early spring. There are cultivars with red or yellow leaf colors.
3. Crape Myrtle - Non-native. Has small inedible fruit and seeds. Pretty flowers in hottest part of summer.
