What can I use this fall to help control them next year? The local feed and seed told me that there was chemicals that I could use, but, that next year I would not be able to use that space. Sevin Dust and spray not working and really need to get them under control.
Depends on how big your "tater patch" is. 75 years ago my granny and I would go to the garden in the cool of the morning and hand pick the bugs. There are several chemical dusts you can use but hand picking would be best, if feasible.
It's not that big. I have done that. Squishing those bugs was so satisfying. If they have laid their eggs, it becomes a time consuming chore. I also look for those, but hard to spot since they are mostly on the underside of the leaves.
